How Do I Get Canadian Citizenship?
You can become a Canadian citizen in several ways.
- Citizenship by naturalization: A Canadian permanent resident may apply for Canadian citizenship if they have been living in Canada for at least 3 years out of the last 5 years.
- Citizenship by birth: With a few exceptions, if you are born in Canada or to Canadian parents abroad, you are a Canadian citizen at birth. You can apply for a Proof of Canadian Citizenship Certificate to obtain proof of this.
- Citizenship by adoption: Children adopted by Canadian citizens may be eligible to be granted Canadian citizenship.
- Resuming Canadian citizenship: People who have once renounced their Canadian citizenship may apply to resume their citizenship.
