GCMS Notes from IRCC are detailed records maintained in the Global Case Management System by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). They provide comprehensive information about an individual’s immigration or visa application, including decision reasons, processing status, officer comments, and correspondence. These notes are crucial for understanding the rationale behind application outcomes, tracking application progress, and verifying that all information and documentation were properly reviewed. They are obtained through a formal Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) request.
What is GCMS notes processing time?
Canadian legislation requires the government institution to respond to a request within 30 days after the request is received. However, there can be exceptions to this processing timeline with some requests taking longer than 30 days.
How much does GCMS notes cost Canada?
Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) requests to Canadian government organizations cost up to $5 per request. Mygration Immigration charges a service fee of $40 per request.
How do I get my GCMS notes?
GCMS notes can be requested from either IRCC or CBSA through an ATIP request. The Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act came into effect on July 1, 1983. The general purpose of these acts is to make government more open and transparent, allowing individuals to more fully participate in the democratic process. The Access to Information Act gives Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and individuals (or corporations) present in Canada the right to access records under the control of a federal government institution in accordance with the principles that government information should be available to the public, that necessary exceptions to the right of access should be limited and specific and that decisions on the disclosure of government information should be reviewed independently of government. The Privacy Act protects the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information about themselves held by a government institution. This Act also provides Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals, regardless of where they are located, the right to access and request correction to their own personal information.
